WHAT IS ELEARNING?
eLearning is the Learning Management System (LMS) used at the University of Alabama, formally known as Blackboard (WebCT) Learning System Vista Enterprise 4.x. The LMS is connected to the University of Alabama’s Banner system, which supplies it with information about student enrollment and other class-related information. This connection to the student information system allows eLearning grade books to automatically include students registered for the class and lets faculty submit midterm and final grades directly to Banner from the eLearning grade book. The eLearning system includes built-in tools to allow instructors and students to share information and discussions, as well as submit and evaluate class work and grades. eLearning allows for connection to several other instructional technology tools available at the University of Alabama.
HOW CAN FACULTY LEARN MORE ABOUT ELEARNING?
Hands-on workshops are offered by the Faculty Resource Center. Self-guided tutorials and other eLearning materials are continually being added to the Tutorials page. Faculty can also request access to Blackboard-created learning modules.
HOW CAN FACULTY GET ELEARNING CLASSES?
In order to use eLearning, faculty members should contact their departmental administrative assistant and request eLearning for the current semester. eLearning can be accessed through myBama.ua.edu in the eLearning window on the Faculty or Academics Tabs (or on the Student Tab for students) or can be reached directly through http://elearning.ua.edu. The FRC can also create developmental or practice eLearning classes for faculty to use to learn about eLearning or to create materials for future classes. Materials placed in developmental or practice courses can be easily copied into “live” eLearning courses for use with students.
